Make It To The Library Part 2
Funded Aug 1, 2016We are loving the KEVA Planks, Magformers, and K'Nex. Students from Pre-K to fifth grade have used the materials to build catapults to help a grumpy bear get rid of some annoying geese, who thinks he's their "mother" (Mother Bruce by Ryan T. Higgins). Some students were able to build rockets for World Space Week. Students also like just creating with the materials. The items have enriched our STEM activities.
The students were anxious to start using the materials when they first saw them. The younger students were allowed to have some free play with the materials early in the school year. Older students are encouraged not to waste time when checking out books. They are able to explore, after checking out books. I love seeing the excitement and focus when the students are using the materials.
The principal is excited to help me host a Maker/STEM Night. This is a way for donors, parents, and community members to see how these items, and items from a previous Donors Choose project are being used to encourage collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. I am also going to do a workshop so that teachers can see how the materials can be used to address the curriculum.
Words cannot express how thankful I am for the generosity of the donors.”

Make It To The Library
Funded Oct 10, 2015Thank you for supporting my project. Your generosity has impacted our students by allowing them to explore some of the components of STEAM in the Media Center. The students and teachers are excited about the materials. When they leave the media center, they are talking about what they will do next. My goal of encouraging students and teachers to use the library more has been achieved. Having the Ozobots, Osmo, Snap Circuits, and Makey Makey have also generated more curiosity. Through play and collaboration, students are developing problem solving skills. The library is now a place for the students to develop their creative and critical thinking skills along with finding and using information.
Thank you for giving our students the opportunity to explore, create, and collaborate. If you could hear the discussions and see the excitement, you would know just how much your donation has impacted over 200 students. We truly appreciate your support.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Artis

Funded Mar 24, 2012You can only imagine how thankful we are for your generosity. The students have been so engaged with their learning. They make suggestions for how to use the iPod. So far we have used the iPod for a variety of learning experiences.
The students have been able to use the iPod to record group work, and critique how the group worked together. The students even gave the "videographer"some tips. We took the iPod with us on a recent field trip. Students took turns taking pictures of different types of transportation. We used the pictures for our bulletin board. Each student had a job to do in order to produce an Earth Day puppet play. One student was able to record our play. We're able to listen to music without searching for the right CD. Of course students have played some educational games. It feels so good to see students helping each other.
Thank you for donating to our project. You have given some eager and curious first grader a new tool to help them become 21st learners.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Artis
How Do We Measure Up?
Funded Dec 17, 2011Thank you so much for your generous donation. My class of 15 students is excited about using the new tools to practice nonstandard measurement. They are able to get a hands-on experience that will be more meaningful than watching a demonstration or doing worksheets.
We have already used the bucket balance, measuring cups, and weights to find the weight of 100 pennies, during our 100th Day of School activities. We used the thermometer to measure the temperature of our tulip garden, which we are growing for an online project. The students had fun using the Unifix cubes to measure their shoe, for a word problem.
We did these activities in just a week and a half. Imagine how many more opportunities my students will have, thanks to you. Your donation has meant more than words can say. Thank you again for being so kind.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Artis
Take a Leap
Funded Sep 27, 2011Your generosity is greatly appreciated. It is good to know that there are people who feel the same as I do about education. You have helped to provide another resource that will motivate my students to learn and prepare for the 21st Century.
The students look forward to using the Leapster Explorers, to enrich their literacy and math skills. It is good to know that I can download games when there is a skill that needs to be improved. The stories and math games seem to be the most popular activities. As other games are added, I'm sure there will be more opportunities for the students to grow.
The Leapster Explorers give me the opportunity to work with small groups or individuals, because there are few interruptions. The game systems allow the students to work independently. Being able to work independently also gives the students a sense of confidence. When there is a problem, the students help each other.
Thank you for helping my students "take a leap" into learning.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Artis

Funded Nov 3, 2010Like many schools in the nation, budget cuts have left us with limited resources. Your generosity gives me so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
The listening center arrived a day before my helper was going to be absent. I made the comment that it would be nice to get the listening center, so the students could use it during her absence. I was ecstatic when it did come that day.
The students are excited about being able to follow along in the reading series, while I meet with small reading groups. I am thrilled that I can trust them to read and reset the CD, without interruptions.
Thank you for your generosity.”

Ms. Artis
